La Union artists opened a fundraising art exhibit on November 26, 2022 with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the Home for Girls of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The exhibit, which will run from November 26, 2022 to January 18, 2023 at CianΓ³ Umok Gallery Cafe in Palugsi-Limmansangan, Bauang, La Union, features paintings of selected La Union artists from different groups who shares their masterpieces to bring HOPE to the young girls who are victims of physical, emotional and mental abuse.
Some paintings that are displayed in the exhibit include the Voyage Series, Mother and Child - homage to Vicente Manansala, the Urbiztondo Beach in San Juan, St. John Paul the Great, Mother Theresa, Jim Morrison, John Lennon, Kundiman, Halaman, One for All and All for One, Aninaw, Cynosure, Mysterious Dreams, Balsa ni Miguel, and Sabangan. They are works of Rodel Rillera, Cesar Dumo, Christian Rivera, Remz Rivera, Rannie Nieva, Jerome Barbadillo, Joanne Cariaso-Gacayan, Aileen Cariaso, Ricarte Ico, Clinton Aniversario, Valen Valero and Teresita Domingo-Basco.
Vice Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, who delivered a speech during the opening of the exhibit, said that the exhibit gives importance on commemorating the past, which measures who we are in the present and will eventually guide us to the future. Vice Gov. Ortega has also lauded the efforts of the group for organizing an art exhibit for a cause.
Board Member Maria Rosario Eufrosina βCharyβ P. Nisce also supported the noble project and assured the Provincial Governmentβs support to the artists. She expresed her hope for more collaborations to help showcase the artworks of La Union local artists to a broader audience.
Meanwhile, Agoo Sangguniang Bayan Member Christian I. Rivera, who is also part of the initiative, shared that he and his fellow artists have been supporting the institution yearly in various forms. Member of the Artists Guild of La Union Jerome C. Barbadillo also added that the team are not only there to showcase or support the exhibit but also start giving those girl children a chance to reach their dreams. CianΓ³ Umok Gallery Cafe owner Cesar Dumo likewise said it was his honor to house and present the paintings created by his fellow artists in the province.
The Home for Girls is primarily a residential treatment facility that aims to provide protection and rehabilitation services to female children aged 7 to below 18 years old who are victims of sexual abuse and exploitation to facilitate their early recovery and reintegration to their families and community.
In the spirit of #LaUnionPROBINSYAnihan, the Provincial Government of La Union is one with the DSWD and the La Union artists in the promotion of equality and child rightsβempowering the youth through artists-led advocacies to stop all forms of abuse.
