Specialty foods and homegrown delicacies from La Union and other provinces form Ilocos Region took the center stage at the Kaon Ta, Kain Pa! Food and Travel Festival held at the Abreeza Ayala Mall, Davao City from December 2 to 4, 2022. The said gastronomic celebration endeavors to position the Philippines as a premiere culinary destination in Asia and the world.

Carrying the theme โ€œFood Tripping Christmas,โ€ the event featured a flavorful spread of regional and modern holiday cuisines and beverages from Regions 1, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, the National Capital Region and the Cordillera Administrative Region.

The Region 1 delegation was composed of LGU tourism and investment officers, local MSMEs and technical staff from DOT โ€“ Region 1 headed by Regional Director Joseph Francisco โ€œJeffโ€ R. Ortega. La Union delegation was led by Provincial Tourism Officer, Arthur S. Cortez, Jr., Regional Chef and Halo-Halo De Iloko Proprietor Xavier B. Mercado and D Senoโ€™s Creation Owner and Entrepreneur, Almira S. Camaya.

During the Ilocos Region Presentation, Chef Mercado demonstrated the cooking of the flavors of โ€œOkoyโ€ in Region 1 โ€“ Danggit Okay of Pangasinan, Vegetable Okoy of La Union, Longganisa Okoy of Ilocos Sur and Bagnet Okoy of Ilocos Norte.

With the leadership of Gov. Raphaelle Veronica โ€œRafyโ€ Ortega-David, the Provincial Government of La Union reaffirms its unwavering support for the DOT in promoting the Philippinesโ€™ rich heritage through food and gastronomy tourism. The provinceโ€™s participation in the festival has provided opportunities to our tourism stakeholders, partners and enterprises โ€“ from food to farm tours to local farmers and producers, aligned to our initiatives in advancing La Union to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
