LA UNION SHOWS OFF KAPROBINSIAAN SUMAN, HALO-HALO RECIPE

A reflection of how the people of La Union stick together to achieve greater heights, Suman Cook Fest and Halo-Halo Making Contest was hosted by the Provincial Government of La Union held at the Salu-SALO Agri-Tourism Trade Fair, Mabanag Quadrangle on March 3, 2023 as part of the 173rd La Union Foundation Anniversary.
Different flavors of rice cakes from Suman Makers of 14 Local Government Units of La Union joined the contest including City of San Fernando, Agoo, Bagulin, Balaoan, Bangar, Bauang, Caba, Naguilian, Rosario, San Gabriel, San Juan, Sto. Tomas, Sudipen and Tubao.
Tubao's suman bagged the first place, taking home P20,000.00, followed by the entry of Bangar with P15,000.00 prize and Bagulin for the third place with P10,000.00 prize.
Participating Suman Makers and vendors were given a venue to showcase their own recipes and boasting quality ingredients that were used in creating the delicacy. Local visitors and tourists witnessed the event.
Meanwhile, six unique Halo-Halo versions by Lorma Colleges, CICOSAT College, Polytechnic College of La Union, St. John Bosco College, Saint Louis College and Northern Phillippines College for Maritime Science and Technology also competed with their own Halo-Halo variant with fresh local ingredients and unique flavors.
For this year's Halo-Halo Making Competition, students of Saint Louis College-Hospitality and Tourism Management won the first place taking home P15,000.00; BS Hospitality Management of Polytechnic College of La Union won second place with P10,000.00 prize; and BS Hospitality Management students from Lorma Colleges won third place with P5,000.00.
