With an average of 84%, Remila C. Padilla of Bacnotan, La Union ranked 5th among 533 passers of the February 2022 Social Worker Licensure Examination.

A resident of Brgy. Nangalisan in the Municipality of Bacnotan, Padilla is currently employed as Social Welfare Assistant of the Statutory Programs Division at the Department of Social Welfare and Development - Field Office 1. She finished Information Technology and Social Work programs in college.

In an interview with the La Union Provincial Tourism Office – Culture and Arts Unit staff, Padilla felt as if she won the lottery upon hearing of the result. Affirming that prayer is indeed powerful, she said that the results made her believe in herself and her capabilities more. β€œPanalangin na may kasamang gawa, [prayer with action]” she emphasized.

Padilla admitted that she had to overcome challenging circumstances before taking the examination. β€œI was ready to set aside my dream for my greatest dream – that is to become a mother. Hindi naging madali mula sa pagbubuntis ko hanggang sa panganganak dahil maselan ang aking pagbubuntis, [ I had to endure a difficult and risky pregnancy. ]” she said. Eventually, they lost her son who only lived for 21 days.

Despite the grief, Padilla pursued to take the Social Worker Licensure Examination scheduled for August 2021. However, 3 days before the examination day, she tested CoViD-19 positive and was immediately quarantined.

β€œSunod-sunod na pagsubok ang dumating subalit dahil sa mayamang biyaya ng Diyos, ako ay isang mananagumpay! [The grace of God made me victorious despite the odds] I stand in faith believing in the power of God who bestowed wisdom upon me… Inihanda Niya ako sa isang bagay na higit pa sa aking inaakala, [The LORD provided beyond what I’ve asked.] ” she said as she thanked the Provincial Government of La Union for recognizing her achievement.
