To hone the skills and capabilities of its employees during disaster, Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH) through the leadership of Dr. Zenserly D. Pagaduan, together with the Environmental, Health and Safety Committee led by Dr. Jennifer Gamioa and the Disaster Preparedness Committee Chairman, Dr. Jeffrey Julian, conducted a simultaneous Earthquake and Fire Drill on April 19, 2022 in BDH, Bacnotan, La Union.

Objective of the drill is to test the competence of the employeesโ€™ preparedness response and overall efficiency including the usefulness of the Emergency Preparedness Plan of the Hospital and other existing policies.

Signaled by the sound of the hospital alarm, the drill started with the demonstration of "duck, cover, and hold" technique. The participants were instructed by the fire marshals to watch out for falling objects and to keep calm all the time. They were directed to the designated evacuation area followed by a headcount. After the drill, participants were taught the proper usage of fire extinguisher and putting-off fire from a gas tank. Other evacuation procedures and emergency response were also tackled.

A total of 65 participants joined the drill, 46 are hospital staff and 16 are non-staff participants.

Post evaluation from the said drill was done by the representative from the Bureau of Fire-Bacnotan.

BDH conducts fire and earthquake drills at least twice a year to update the skills and capacitate the emergency preparedness of its staff in times of calamities or disasters.
