In the continuous effort of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) in ensuring the safety of Kaprobinsiaan and to maintain its quick response time in cases of disaster, a total of 146 first responders were trained on High Angle Search and Rescue (HASAR) from the Municipalities of Rosario, Burgos, Santol, Naguilian, and Santo Tomas by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

To further capacitate first responders based in the community, the training aimed to upgrade their skills and knowledge in principles of life saving techniques on a high angle slope. There were 23 responders from Burgos; 26 from Rosario; 30 from Santol; 34 from Naguilian; and 33 from Santo Tomas who completed the training.

โ€œAng dami naming natutunan sa HASAR trainingโ€ฆpara sa akin, malaking tulong ito para sa aking komunidad kasi handa kaming tumulong habang hinihintay โ€˜yong tulong mula sa MDRRMO o PDRRMO,โ€ stated Sangguniang Kabataan President of Santo Tomas Mark Anthony Laplana, a training completer.

Aside from HASAR, also discussed in the training were Standard First Aid and Basic Life Support; Simple Machine (pulley system) Operation; Art of Searching; Knot tying; Basket management; Familiarization on high angle equipment; and practicum on Ascending and Descending.

In order to further intensify the provinceโ€™s disaster resilience, the PGLU continues to train community-based first responders in different areas of operation as this is deemed vital by Gov. Raphaelle Veronica โ€œRafyโ€ Ortega-David in attaining the provinceโ€™s vision to be the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
