Six local hospitals in the Province of La Union continue to raise the bar of excellence as they add two more additional ISO Systems in their already existing ISO 9001:2015 Certification for Quality Management System. These are La Union Medical Center (LUMC), Bacnotan District Hospital(BCDH), Balaoan District Hospital (BLDH), Caba District Hospital (CDH), Naguilian District Hospital (NDH) and Rosario District Hospital (RDH).

On April 07 and 28, 2022, said medical institutions in the province received affirmation that they are providing safe and healthy workplace while enhancing environmental performance by passing the Stage 1 and 2 Audit for ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS) and ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management System (OHSMS), respectively thus, earning full certifications for both EMS and OHSMS from the National Quality Assurance (NQA). The two on-site audit stages were carried out simultaneously.

They also received on April 7 recommendation for continuous recertification for ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) after the surveillance audit, the second stage of which is scheduled on April 2023.

The six local hospitals first earned their full certifications for ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System in 2017 and have continuously took up the challenge of culture change and carried out an organization-wide movement that has helped improve their services.

Dr. Eduardo S. Posadas, La Union Provincial Health Officer highlighted all employees' contributions in this endeavor. β€œThe two new certifications from the International Organization for Standardization or ISO will be testaments of our toiling to make the services and patient care better and improved. We shall welcome this as great news in this pandemic when we find our frontline health workers' position as crucial and challenging. This success is a product of all your efforts and hard work." Dr. Posadas said.

During the concluding meeting and results announcement on April 28, LUMC’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Glenn Ernest M. Fonbuena expressed his ineffable gratitude to the LUMC top management and ISO Core team: Claire T. Fonbuena (ISO Facilitator), Dr. Michael L. Mostales (Lead Auditor), Nonette G. Molina (Asst. Facilitator), Joseph P. Erpelo (Document Control Custodian), Jackilou O. Padilla (Ass. DCC) and Olivia E. Doctolero (OIC-Spvsg. Admin. Officer),

He likewise thanked Dr. Gretchen F. Aromin, Dr. Zenserly D. Pagaduan, Dr. Mark Anthony S. Tomboc, Dr. Michelle Arellano, Dr. Dan William Y. Dacanay II, COHs of the district hospital of Caba, Bacnotan, Balaoan, Rosario and Naguilian, respectively.

The commitment and dedication displayed by the staff and personnel, albeit challenging and financially draining most especially to LUMC that has been hosting the external audit for four years now were likewise lauded by Dr. Fonbuena.

He said: β€œWe are dedicated to providing the safest and most effective healthcare services possible. ISO 9001:2015, 14001:2015 and 45001:2018 certifications not only reflect that mission but help to empower it. The certificates are just pieces of paper, but the efforts required to achieve them fundamentally transform the way we do business. The three ISO systems are ideally suited to the complex, people-intensive challenges of running a hospital. They are public evidence that we are at the top of our game with an obvious plan in place to make excellence an everyday objective.”

These milestones show that all hospitals and offices of the PGLU render optimal services to our Kaprobinsiaan as they continue to improve the quality of their systems, procedures and services.
