Kaprobinsiaan Innovative Cooking Prowess Highlighted in Tilapia, Igado Cooking Competition

Promoting the provincial fish and one of the distinct dishes in La Union, the Provincial Government of La Union held the Tilapia and Igado Cooking Competition on March 4, 2023 at the Agri-Tourism Trade Fair, Mabanag Quadrangle, City of San Fernando, La Union.

The cooking competition displays the new and creative ways of the participating contestants in preparing unique recipes that portray the popular fishโ€™s versatility and the flavorful Ilocano pork dish.

The Tilapia Cooking Competition was participated in by 10 contestants from the Local Government Units of Agoo, Bauang, Caba, City of San Fernando, Luna, Rosario and San Juan, La Union. Among the 10 recipes cooked in the contest, three unique tilapia dishes stood out and captured the judgesโ€™ taste buds. The entries from Naguilian and Luna, La Union won the 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively while the Municipality of Bauang, La Union won the 1st Prize.

For the Igado Cooking Competition, 10 local chefs from the tourism-related establishments in La Union prepared their own creative, flavorful and delicious igado delicacies. Each participants came up with different twist of recipes in cooking the igado dish. Winning the competition, Sagat Crust Food House bagged the First Prize in the Igado Cooking Competition while Emeralde Cafรฉ and Taipan Restaurant got the 2nd and 3rd Prizes respectively. The judges commended the contestants for displaying their own local ingredients and homegrown skills in cooking.

With the series of events in displaying cooking talents in the celebration of the 173rd La Union Foundation Anniversary, the PGLU is raising peopleโ€™s awareness of the creative and innovative ways to cook these Ilocano delicacies in pursuit of positioning La Union as the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
