To continue the harmonious working relationships of the Provincial Government of La Union and the component local government units (LGUs), Gov. Francisco Emmanuel โ€œPacoyโ€ R. Ortega III visits the local government of Sudipen, La Union headed by Mayor Wendy D. Buquing on May 27, 2021 as the start of the Stronger Ties with LGUs Program.

Equipped with his mission to bring transformative governance, Gov. Pacoy aims to personally reach out to the component LGUs to know further their concerns and to find out where the PGLU can provide assistance and programs.

Banking on the provinceโ€™s unity and cooperation, visits and coffee table discussions are also scheduled with the rest of the LGUs in the coming weeks. We are strong but together, we are stronger.

Noces of Balaoan, La Union shares his experiences in joining the national competition during a courtesy call on May 26, 2021 at the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Mr. Rolando Casipit of Luna, La Union who also won the 3rd Runner Up in the same search was also present.
Both fishermen were nominated by Ms. Leony O. Gagni, Agricultural Center Chief II and Mr. Carlo Magno G. Castillo Jr., Aquaculturist II of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist.
The search for Bayaning Mangigisda 2021 is instituted to recognize and highlight the good moral values and selfless contributions of Filipino Fishermen for others to exemplify and take inspiration from. This competition is open to all fishermen residing and working in the Philippines.

The Provincial Government of La Union secured the 1st Runner Up in the Best Project Implementer Category during the CY 2020 State of the Regionโ€™s Development Conference and Regional Development Council 1 (RDC-1) Awards and Recognition Program on May 26, 2021 via video conference. The award was granted to La Union in the construction of the Balecbec-Basca Farm-to-Market Road.

In the same conference, RDC-1 Chairperson Juan Carlos S. Medina delivered his State of the Regionโ€™s Address.

Gov. Pacoy Presides LUMC Board of Trustees Meeting

Gov. Francisco Emmanuel โ€œPacoyโ€ R. Ortega III presides the 163rd Board of Trustees (BOT) meeting of the La Union Medical Center (LUMC) on May 26, 2021 via video conference where the BOT discussed and approved the proposed Memorandum of Agreement between the Department of Health Center for Health Development I for the medical assistance to indigent patients of LUMC. Filling up of vacated permanent and contractual positions and application for Visiting Physicians were likewise tackled. Dr. Glenn Ernest M. Fonbuena, CEO IV of LUMC also presented the Financial/ Performance Report of LUMC from January-April 2021.

Liga ng mga Barangay Meets to Assure Alignment

To ensure the alignment of all Barangays in La Union, Board Member Geraldine R. Ortega, President of the Liga ng mga Barangay La Union Chapter presided their regular meeting on May 26, 2021 at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Building, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union. Discussed in the meeting were the Guidelines on the Localization of Safe Space Act and the Revised Guidelines on the Appropriation and Utilization of the 20% of the IRA for development projects. The league pushes for the passing of ordinance to localize the Safe Space Act and the designation of barangay tanods and community service units to Anti-Sexual Harassment Desks. Vegetable seeds from the Villar Sipag Foundation were also distributed to the liga presidents present.

The Provincial Government – Environment and Natural Resources Office in partnership with DENR – Environmental Management Bureauโ€“Region I conducted a workshop where in participants were taught on how to make a matrix on the Pollution Load Assessment of Naguilian River System on May 25, 2021at Suyo, Bagulin, La Union.

La Union Conducts First Virtual Jobs Fair

As the CoViD-19 pandemic continuously affects employment and the economy as a whole, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) in coordination with the Information & Communications Technology Unit (ICTU), organized and hosted the first La Union Virtual Jobs Fair 2021 interviewing 110 applicants on May 24 and 25, 2021.

More than 400 jobseekers registered online for the La Union Virtual Job Fair. The list of the jobseekers registered were then forwarded to the corresponding employers for shortlisting. On May 24 and 25, 2021, 110 shortlisted jobseekers underwent virtual job interviews with the three participating employers via video conference. Job openings available were clerical staff, audit staff, area operation specialist, field staff, cashier, receiving clerk, sales clerk, assistant store manager, sign shop artist, administrative officer, store supervisor, business center agent.

In addition, one employer who was in need of bagger, package counter, janitor, warehouseman and technician was also invited by PESO-La Union to join the job fair. The representative in-charge of the manpower pooling physically interviewed seven jobseekers on May 24, 2021 at PESO-La Union Office where all interviewees were hired on the spot.

Ms. Charito C. Dator, Provincial PESO Manager, complimented the jobseekers and the interviewers from three private companies participating in the virtual job fair and added, โ€œMarami pa tayong mga jobs fair na gagawin…para mabigyan natin ng maraming job opportunities pa para sa ang ating mga aplikante at mga kababayan dito sa Probinsya ng La Union.โ€

As the La Union Virtual Jobs Fair concluded, one of the representative of the three participating agencies, Ms. Rosalie B. Castro, HR Specialist, congratulated PGLU under the leadership of Gov. Pacoy Ortega for the successful conduct of the activity and said, โ€œIt is a good initiative, and I appreciate it so much kasi kami yung nauna at hopefully meron po ulit.โ€

The PGLU continuously tightens partnership with agencies to find ways of initiating and improving machineries of providing opportunities for the acceleration of the employment recovery process to lift the employability status of active jobseekers in the province of La Union.
