OVERVIEW:
The Caba District Hospital (CDH) is a 15 bed Level 1 Hospital which came into existence forty-three (43) years ago after its formal inauguration on February 25, 1974. It has distinguished itself as a pioneering institution, surpassing the challenges of two (2) devolutions. From the stewardship of the Philippine Medical Care Commission in 1974 to 1986, CDH was adopted by the Department of Health (DOH) from 1987 to 1991. It was then nurtured by the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) from 1992 to present after the implementation of Republic Act (RA) No. 7160, otherwise known as the Local Government Code of 1991, devolving several national government units like district hospitals to the Local Government.
CDH caters to the seventeen (17) barangays of Caba, La Union whose population is 22,303, eight (8) barangays of Bauang and twenty-four (24) barangays of Aringay. It is located within the fourth class municipality of Caba along the national highway, hence it is accessible to its catchment areas.

From its simple beginnings, the hospital being minimally equipped with the least manpower of six (6) hospital staff, the CDH now has seventy-nine (79) personnel with sixty (60) regular plantilla positions.

Under the PGLU, the CDH although still a 15 bed level 1 hospital, underwent a lot of improvements with the acquisition of modern hospital and office equipments and infrastructure development. Improvement of the different areas of the hospital CY 2007 and CY 2008 were partially funded from the hospital’s excess income from accumulated years as an economic enterprise. Major construction and renovation of the hospital by phases from CY 2007 to present were done with full support from the PGLU, 2nd District of La Union House Representative, and the Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP) of the DOH. Through the continuous support of PGLU as well as the adaption of economic enterprise, CDH is aiming for high quality service delivery and become self reliant in its operation in the future.
