La Union Celebrates 160th Foundation AnniversaryAdministrator Aringay Wins 1st Governor’s Cup Open Women’sBeach Volleyball Tournament Israel O. Rudio, PITO After bagging the 1st runner up plum of the 1st Governor’s Cup Inter-Town Open Basketball Tournament last year, Aringay once again proves itself as one of the sports power house towns of La Union as it bagged the Championship Crown of the 1st Governor’s Cup Inter-Town Open Women’s Beach Volleyball Tournament at Sea Park Beach Resort in the City of San Fernando. Ilocos Region Athletic Association (ILOCOS) Veterans Susana Manabat and Arlyn Domondon of Aringay simply outclassed City Government of San Fernando standouts Marinol P. Quilon and Novalyn Obinque as the former swept the first two sets of their best of three championship match. Team Aringay received cash prize in the amount of PhP 8,000 plus trophy while Team City of San Fernando received PhP 6,000 plus trophy. Mega Jobs Fair Charlie Balanon, PITO As a manifestation of its support to the people of La Union, the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) through the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) did it share in celebrating the 160th Foundation Anniversary of the province in coordination with the Department of Labor & Employment (DoLE), Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), LORMA Colleges, LGUs, various employeers and other agency partners by successfully spearheading the conduct of La Union Mega Jobs Fair on February 22 & 24, 2010 at the LORMA Colleges Gymnasium, Barangay Carlatan, City of San Fernando, La Union and Jose D. Aspiras Civic Center, Agoo, La Union, respectively. The event was able to reach out 2,323 applicants, 666 of whom were determined qualified, 1,165 were scheduled for further interview, 135 for examination or testing, 135 for manpooling and 19 were hired on the spot.
