The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) led by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III together with the Department of Health (DOH) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a Regional Blood Center on October 18, 2017 at Barangay Sevilla, City of San Fernando, La Union.

Approximately 4000 square meter lot was donated by the PGLU to the DOH. Construction shall begin within the year.

DOH Region 1 Director Dr. Myrna C. Cabotaje, who spoke in behalf of Usec. Herminigildo V. Valle, expressed gratitude for the donation and the continued support of the PGLU during the program held at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union. Dr. Cabotaje reminded, “Giving blood is giving the most precious gift to another person, a gift that will extend the life of the sick while at the same time, reinvigorating the giver.” She said that the challenge is to recruit as many individuals that will become regular voluntary unpaid donors to guarantee sufficient supply of healthy blood to meet the provincial and regional demand.
