La Union Vibrant Women, Inc. (LUVWI) Celebrated Women’s Month by increasing their faith and hope through the intercession of our “NUESTRA SEÑORA VIRGEN DEL MAR CAUTIVA.”

In 1845, Fr. Santiago Romero (Araujo), OSA, Parish priest of Holy Guardian Angels Parish, Santo Tomas, La Union, propagated the devotion to the blessed Virgin Mary entitled “Virgin of the Rosaries”. He asked some sculptors in Manila to curve three statues for the Enshrinement at the parich church. One for the Blessed Mother, one for the St. Michael the Archangel, and the another one for the Holy Guardian Angels.

In July of that year, the statues were packed in three boxes and hurriedly sent to Santo Tomas by sailboat named “Matutina” via West Philippine Sea. Somewhere near Bolinao, Pangasinan, sea pirates from Jolo who customarily killed Christians in those days attacked the “Matutina”.
