Pugo’s Tapuakan River bagged the first prize for the Inland Bodies of Water category in the recently conducted Provincial Search for the Cleanest, Safest and Greenest (CSG) Municipality for the CY 2017 of the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU), Regional Development Council (RDC) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

Tapuakan River is located in Barangay Cares, Pugo, La Union. In Ilocano terminology, “tapuakan” means "a place where one can jump as high". The exquisite river’s cool and pristine waters flow from the town's streams amid huge rock beds and awesome large rock formations surrounded by forests and a water fall made the place so majestic.

On the other hand, Santol’s Bulalakaw Falls garnered 2nd Place for the same category. The cold gushing water is only half of what made Bulalakaw Falls a top destination in Santol. The newly discovered falls is located at Sitio Letang, Brgy. Ramot Santol, La Union. The place can be accessed by four-wheel cars or single motor around 20-30 minutes from the town proper to barangay Ramot and a 20-minute trek going to the falls.
