On February 9, 2017, President Rodrigo R. Duterte through Menardo I. Guevara, Acting Executive Secretary, released Proclamation No. 153 declaring March 2, 2017 as a special non-working holiday to mark the 167th Founding Anniversary of the Province of La Union. This was announced recently by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” Ortega III. Gov. Pacoy said activities to mark the event are aligned to this year’s theme, “Hearts Beating as One for the Love of La Union.”

Headlining the events this year is the Agri-Trade and Tourism Fair which opened on February 21, 2017 in front of the City Hall of San Fernando showcasing products from the different municipalities and city of La Union. On February 24, 2017, La Union Mega Jobs Fair 2017 organized by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office - Public Employment Service Office (PSWDO-PESO) will be launched at the Father Burgos Gym in Saint Louis College, Carlatan, City of San Fernando, La Union. Partnering with Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), the Provincial Planning and Development Office (PPDO) will be organizing a Skills Olympics that will be held on February 28, 2017 at the Don Pacoy Ortega Gymnasium.
