The Department of Agriculture (DA), Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) led by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III, and the ABONO Party-List represented by Hon. Vini Nola A. Ortega distributed rehab palay and corn seeds to farmers affected by Typhoons Karen and Lawin on November 18, 2016 at the Capitol Grounds, Provincial Capitol Building, City of San Fernando, La Union.
Under Typhoons “Karen” and “Lawin”, La Union was placed under tropical cyclone warning signal number 3. Due to the planning and preparedness of the province, the two strong typhoons fortunately left La Union with zero death. However, it caused millions of damage to the agricultural sector. To help farmers recover, a total of 2,500 bags of palay; 50 bags of white corn; 10 bags of yellow corn; 42 kilos of vegetable seeds; and 4,400 kilos of mung bean seeds were distributed throughout La Union based on damages sustained from the typhoons.

Governor Pacoy assured the attendees of his unwavering support to the farming industry and reminded them that his office will always be ready to render aid. The Governor has actively set contingency programs to stimulate the province in quickly bouncing back from natural calamities such as typhoons keeping in line with his vision of establishing La Union as the heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.
