The 11thLa Union Surfing Break (LUSB11) held last October 28-30, 2016 at the shores of Urbiztondo and Quirino-Galongen in San Juan and Bacnotan, La Union, respectively, was indeed a weekend of music, food and surfing. The annual 3-day beach festival was a massive celebration of the beach and surf lifestyle attracting thousands and growing exponentially every year.

This year’s event was highlighted by the 3rd Annual Poks Forever National Surfing Competition in honor of the life of the local surfer and global surf phenomenon, Ronie ‘Poks’ Esquivel. Surfing clinics, organized local tours, a showcase of local products; food and bar crawl and music performances featuring various genres are among the other activities undertaken during the festival. As part of the advocacy of the La Union Surfing Break, festival-goers were immersed into a Pawikan Awareness and Conservation Project which reminded locals and tourists that La Union is an active nesting site for pawikans and it is everyone’s responsibility to help protect the fifth longest shoreline in the planet.
