The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III welcomed 2018 with the monthly First Monday Flag Raising Ceremony program held on January 8, 2018 at the Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union.

With the awards and recognitions won by the province in 2017, Gov. Pacoy wished for a happy and prosperous New Year for the attendees as he gave the call to buckle down to work harder in bringing more accolades in the name of the province and focusing on priority pillars and thrusts in the vision of making La Union the Heart of Agri-Tourism in Northern Luzon by 2025.

In his message, the Governor also expressed gratitude and appreciation to the competence and excellence in public service exemplified by Provincial Administrator Geoffrey S. Tilan who retires on January 31, 2018. The storied career in public service of Dr. Tilan spans decades in different government agencies and serving La Union as its Provincial Administrator under the tenure of four Governors.

Gov. Pacoy conveyed his sympathies to the relatives of the victims in the tragedy that happened on Christmas Day in Agoo where a jeepney and bus figured in a collision resulting to multiple casualties. The PGLU has extended assistance to the families and Gov. Pacoy stated his commitment to preventing such horrific accidents from happening again through effective protocol and policy formulation.

The Governor and the Sangguniang Panlalawigan led by Vice Governor Aureo Augusto Q. Nisce also honored the other retirees namely: Nenita A. Lomboy, 40 years of service, Provincial Health Office (PHO); Virginia C. Beroña, 38 years of service, Naguilian District Hospital (NDH); Fely O. Carmelo, 41 years of service, Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO); Erma J. Dasalla, 22 years of service, Office of the Provincial Assessor (OPASS); Aurora R. Obra, 42 years of service, Bacnotan District Hospital (BDH); Evelyn V. Corpuz, 40 years of service, Rosario District Hospital (RDH); Cecilio C. Reyes, 24 years of service, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO); and Oscar M. Rivera, 19 years of service, Balaoan District Hospital (BLDH).

The Provincial Treasurer’s Office (PTO), Provincial Assessor’s Office (OPASS), and the Provincial Information and Tourism Office (PITO) spearheaded the First Monday Flag Raising Ceremony for the month of January.
