The Provincial Government of La Union headed by Governor Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III commemorated the birth anniversary of the late President Elpidio R. Quirino on November 16, 2017 at the Provincial Capitol Lobby, Capitol Building City of San Fernando, La Union.

This celebration is in reference to Sangguniang Panlalawigan Ordinance No. 116-2017 declaring every 16th of November as Elpidio Quirino Day in the Province of La Union in commemoration of the birth anniversary of the sixth President of the Republic of the Philippines and first Ilokano President who served from April 15, 1948 to December 30, 1953.

Also on the same day, wreath-laying ceremonies were also held in three other venues in the province where the late president left a mark. First is in Barangay Gana, Caba where the late president served as a public school teacher. Second is in Elpidio Quirino National High School in Agoo and in a barangay in Bacnotan that is named after him.

Pangasinan 2nd District Representative Leopoldo N. Bataoil, a relative of the late president together with Ms. Cory and Connie Quirino, his granddaughters, were present in the said activity.

The celebration serves as a reminder of the life and career of the late President as a hardworking teacher and a public servant which encourages and inspires every Filipino to strive hard and follow his good example in public service.
