The Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) in collaboration with the Municipal Government of Bauang, and the Barangay Officials of Barangay Nagrebcan, Bauang, La Union commemorated the death anniversary of Manuel Estabilla Arguilla by conducting a Wreath Laying Ceremony on August 25, 2017 at his ancestral home in Nagrebcan, Bauang, La Union. Arguilla is a famous writer, patriot, martyr and hero.

The program started with a warm welcome from Bauang Sangguniang Bayan Member Alexander Romeo G. Obong followed by a history background from the Chairman of the Committee on Tourism, Sisterhood and International Relations, Board Member Christian I. Rivera where they both mentioned the genuineness and humility of the late writer.

Vice Governor Aureo Augusto Q. Nisce also gave a message where he stressed how Manuel Arguilla’s story touched the lives of many Filipinos. He also proposed that the local hero Manuel Arguilla must be a part of the history subject in schools in addition to the famous heroes like Jose P. Rizal, Diego Silang and the like.

Manuel Arguilla, an Ilocano pride has also shown love to the country as a teacher and a freedom fighter who offered his talents and life for the country. His works and memories will forever be treasured and preserved for the next generations to come and will serve as an inspiration not only to Ilocanos but to all Filipinos.
