The Provincial Government of La Union headed by Gov. Francisco Emmanuel “Pacoy” R. Ortega III will be holding the 7th Ayat Festival in promotion of the Ilokano language starting September 15, 2017 with the theme, “Sangsangkamaysa a Panagpitik Dagiti Puso nga Agay-Ayat iti La Union.”

This year’s features different activities which promote the Iloko Language and Culture such as the Street Dancing Competition, La Union Henio (Iloko version of Pinoy Henio), Iskrabiloko (Iloko Scrabble Tournament), Ilokano Chorale Competition, Salip ti Deklamasion, and conferment of the Kampeon ti Lengguahe Award.



The Street Dancing Competition and La Union Henio elimination will be held during the Ayat Festival Opening on September 15, 2017 at the Agoo Civic Center, Agoo, La Union. On September 19, 2017, the Iskrabiloko Competition will be held at the Don Pacoy Gym, simultaneous with the Salip ti Deklamasion and Ilokano Chorale Competion which will be held at the Diego Silang Hall, Provincial Capitol, City of San Fernando, La Union. All the winners in the elimination round will proceed to the final round and awarding ceremonies on October 11, 2017.

This event is pursuant to the Implementing Rules and Regulations of SP Ordinance 026-2012 otherwise known as Local Language Code of La Union. All Local Government Units (LGUs) in the province are encouraged to conduct Ayat Festival contests in their respective municipalities. Winners of each contest will represent their LGUs in the provincial level.

The festival aims to boost La Union’s local language, culture, and showcase local talents in line with the Tourism and Culture month celebrations this September and October, respectively.
